National Institute for Newman Studies Launches New, Enhanced Web Site
Monday, November 16, 2009
The National Institute for Newman Studies, based in Pittsburgh, today launched a new and enhanced web site (www.newmanstudiesinstitute.org) aimed at increasing awareness of the life, work, and influence of John Henry Newman, a 19th century Roman Catholic Cardinal, philosopher and educator.
John Henry Newman stands as a giant in the fields of theology, philosophy, and education. Influencing many academic and spiritual disciplines, Newman's writings and his lifelong search for religious truth have inspired scholars throughout the world.
The new site is a more information-driven communication vehicle designed to provide scholars and all those interested in Newman with easy-to-access information. Its crisp, clean and professional design was created by Pittsburgh-based Zoltun Design.
The Institute, founded in 2002, is the result of the collaborative efforts of the Venerable John Henry Newman Association (VJHNA) and the Congregation of The Oratory of St. Philip Neri in Pittsburgh, a house of priests and brothers following the foundations of Newman’s own religious community. The goal of the Institute is to serve as the definitive resource in the United States for information on John Henry Newman through three important initiatives: publishing the Newman Studies Journal, sponsoring the Newman Scholarship Program, and developing and maintaining the Newman Research Library.
“We are very excited about the new web site and the information it will bring to those interested in studying John Henry Newman and his life,” Father Drew Morgan, C.O., Institute Director, commented. “This web site will allow both Newman scholars and others who are interested to study this great man and his teachings, as well as stay informed of Newman Institute events and the annual Newman conference.”
Father Morgan added that the web site reflects a culmination of several years’ work and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Institute’s history.
“Newman was an outstanding 19th and 20th century thinker whose influence continues to grow today,” Father Morgan added. “It is our hope that this new web site will generate awareness of his life and work among a wider population, enabling more people to come to know him.”
