Getting to Know Newman: the Apologia Pro Vita Sua
Damon McGraw
PhD Candidate, University of Notre Dame
Executive Research Fellow, National Institute for Newman Studies
Surely the best way to get to know Cardinal Newman is by reading his autobiographical classic, the Apologia Pro Vita Sua. In this great work he defends his personal integrity to a suspicious British public by telling the dramatic story of his journey from being a zealous leader of the Church of England to becoming its most infamous convert to the Roman Catholic Church. This seven-week seminar will guide readers on a tour of the Apologia. Damon will introduce important background information, comment on the major themes, and spark lively discussion.
Monday Evenings: March 1-April 12, 2010 7:30 to 8:45 PM The Gailliot Center for Newman Studies 211 North Dithridge Street Pittsburgh, PA 15213 Copies of the Apologia Pro Vita Sua are available at the front desk of the Pittsburgh Oratory for a $12 suggested donation.
