The First Annual Newman Legacy Lecture

Monday, March 19, 2012

Join distinguished theologian Rev. Michael Buckley, S.J., Ph.D., as he returns to Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman's classic work The Idea of the University as a source of inspiration and challenge to contemporary higher education. While universities today are increasingly focused on research and the production of knowledge for commercial use, Fr. Buckley finds that, for Newman, the primary purpose of universities is to cultivate intellectual excellence in students to aid their maturation into whole persons.

This event is unique in that it is being hosted by Duquesne University in the Power Center Ballroom, at 7pm on Monday, March 19, 2012. Also, please note there will be breakout question and answer session on the following day, Tuesday, March 20, 2012, in Room 613 of Duquesne University's Student Union. The breakout session at 10am is geared towards undergraduates, and the one at 2pm is geared towards graduate students. Of course faculty is welcomed any time.
