Since its inception in 2003, the National Institute for Newman Studies has become the foremost center in North America for the study of the works, life, and influence of John Henry Cardinal Newman.
The Institute’s presence in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh has enhanced the educational and spiritual resources of the region. The Newman Research Library, with its Newman Knowledge Kiosk, ranks among the greatest resources for Newman and Newman-related material in the world. The Newman Studies Journal has become a respected theological publication. Visiting Newman Scholars interface with the local community and take their insights and discoveries back to their academic homes. Interest in Newman Studies is growing.
Five Ways to Support
Friends of the National Institute for Newman Studies can offer their support in several ways:
- Making a donation for library purchases and book restoration.
- Funding the continued development of the Newman Knowledge Kiosk.
- Sponsoring a Newman Scholarship.
- Underwriting the cost of publishing the Newman Studies Journal.
- Assisting with staff salaries and other operational costs.

Non-Profit Status
The National Institute for Newman Studies is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is governed by a Board of Trustees. A Supporting Council assists with fundraising and operational needs. The staff consists of a Director, Assistant Director, Executive Research Fellow, and an Administrative Assistant.
